Stephen Colbert asked Ben Affleck about the sexual harassment allegation against him
by Nathan'ette Burdine: November 21, 2017

Welp, Stephen Colbert went there on actor Ben Affleck. During the Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert (LSSC) last Thursday, Colbert asked Affleck about his ol’ buddy Harvey Weinstein as well as about the sexual harassment allegation against him.

Shocked by the fact that Colbert had just buttered him up with all of those, “Do you like Superman or Batman most,” questions, Affleck told Colbert that he thought he was doing “a comedy show.”

Colbert let Affleck know that although LSSC is a comedy show, the news and politics and other stuff is also discussed.

The other stuff being sexual harassment allegations against famous folks like Weinstein and Affleck.

Due to Weinstein and Affleck being all buddy buddy, Colbert asked Affleck if he felt a duty to continue hanging out there on to that one tree limb with Weinstein.

Affleck told Colbert that he can’t stay out on that limb there with Weinstein because that fella made him feel so nasty to the point that even cashing “a check from the guy” made him feel dirty.

So in an effort to just cleanse himself of everything Harvey Weinstein, Ben Affleck said that he’s decided to give the money he’s made from the movies Weinstein backed him in to a worthwhile organization like Film Independent.

All of that Ben Affleck said sounds good, doesn’t it? In fact, it sounded so good that Colbert used it as a segue into Affleck’s on little problem with sexual harassment.

Colbert asked Affleck, “You yourself have been accused of a few things, sexual impropriety that you’ve apologized for some of that. Do you feel like there is more that you or all men, especially in Hollywood, have to do to make sure that this isn’t a passing thing?”

The sexual harassment claim Stephen Colbert is referring to has to do Ben Affleck allegedly grabbing actress Hilarie Burton’s breast.

Affleck denied the reports when he was first asked about it, and he denied it again during his sit-down with Colbert.

Affleck told Colbert, “I don’t remember touching woman’s breast when giving her a hug. I certainly don’t think she’s lying or making it up.”

Affleck says he’s trying to do better by being more aware of his actions and how they are interpreted by others.

He also suggested that the best thing he can do is to be a better listener and not discount those who are voicing their concern about something as serious as sexual harassment.

“I think the most important thing to do is to support the voices that are coming forward, believe them, and to create a business where more women are empowered and in place so that less of this happens and so there is a way of reporting this stuff so that people can feel safe doing it,” is what Affleck said.

Colbert said that it may be a good idea to have a Justice League to catch the nasty devils running around here doing wrong.

A batman, superman, wonder woman type catching all of these nasty devils trying to steal the “pocket book (vagina).”

Yeah, that will be a good idea. However, we live in the real world and the only way to right a wrong is for folks to acknowledge their own wrong.

Colbert ended the conversation with Affleck by saying this, “I think all men especially need to examine their own conscience to be aware of what they may have done in the past and how in the future they can treat women with greater respect and it starts with believing the people who made the accusations.”
